A course of laser treatments is usually required at 4 – 8 weekly intervals to follow the hair growth cycle. Treatment will leave your skin feeling smooth, soft and free from painful in-growing hairs. To see how suitable you are for this treatment book a free consultation with us.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL has been around for many years now (since the 1990’s) and was brought out as an alternative to lasers. They can be used to treat many things, but we mainly use them here for vessels, some pigments, overall sundamage, acne and they also stimulate collagen.
What is IPL?
Similar to a laser they produce light which is absorbed by certain chromophores (colour) in the skin this then rapidly heats the target (blood vessels and melanin) to help reduce the concern.
How is it different to laser?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light they are similar to laser in that they produce light which can then be used to treat various conditions. The difference is in the way they are made, both have a light source but IPL systems use filters which absorb light that you don’t want to use, where- as lasers pass through mediums such as a gas dye or solid.
Are lasers better than IPL?
This is a common question that many people ask and the answer will vary depending on what is being treated. Some things are better treated with IPL some with lasers, and we are lucky here to have both.
But I have had IPL before and it didn’t work
Another common phrase we hear. It really can depend, we believe that there are so many more IPL’s out there compared to laser and therefore there is bound to be more negative press. All machines vary in strength so there are some weak IPL’s out there and some strong ones, as is the same with laser. We only use medical grade IPL systems that are used in dermatology departments throughout the UK. Also consider the operator and their capabilities.
When would I have IPL?
IPL is excellent at treating; redness, rosacea, red veins, freckles, sunspots, acne, and mild collagen stimulation. And has the advantage of being able to treat a few of those symptoms is one go.

Fractional Laser Treatments
Fractional laser treatments stimulate you skin’s natural healing process, resulting in accelerated collagen production and renewal process that can take years off your skin. Our most anti-ageing laser procedure, fractional laser can treat lines and wrinkles, improve overall skin tone and elasticity and restore a youthful glow. Fractional laser resurfacing finally offers a solution for acne scarring, sun damaged skin and stretchmarks too. It’s now a popular solution for some of the more challenging skin problems that some of us face
What is Fractional Laser?
Fractional Lasers came about as people wanted great results on certain conditions such as scarring, stretch marks, lines and wrinkles, but they wanted to minimise the ‘downtime’ i.e redness and swelling as much as possible. They have been ‘fractionalated’ meaning they only directly treat small portions of the skin, but these areas then stimulate the other sections of skin to respond. We use ablative fractional lasers here
How do they work?
They are absorbed by the water in the skin, which creates a lot of heat and removes minute sections of the skin giving a ‘resurfacing peel like’ effect. This heat then penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate significant collagen renewal. This is working with the body’s natural recovery process.
Why choose us for Fractional Laser treatments?
Here at Abila we are very lucky that our manufactures, Lynton Lasers Ltd, manufacture the Award Winning Lynton ResurFACE Fractional Laser system.
ResurFACE is a gentler treatment which still achieves fantastic results, though you may need more treatments and if the problem is significant you may be suited to the stronger CO2. The downtime for this treatment is less and the skin heals much quicker
How do I know if this is right for me?
We recommend that you come in for a consultation with one of our clinicians to discuss your needs and concerns which will then allow us to give the best treatment package for you.
